Our main leads ZZS and Wen Ke Xing (WKX) were subjected to innumerable trials and tribulations in the finale episodes. Word of Honor ended on an unexpected note last week and the ardent fans are still recovering from the loss. Imagine the desperation and loneliness he felt to utter those words. PS: I don’t think Simon Gong Jun should pursue a singing career. This is probably the most lucid love confession you can get, from a strict disciplinarian like Zhou Zi Shu. These characters and their sad backstory deserve happiness with their soulmate. Wen and Zhou had such tender moments from their first fight scene to Wen offering the hairpin key. Although I found fault with the final episode, I also enjoyed this series a ton. In the end, my heart was simply relieved and happy to see them together, especially in immortality. Originally, I assumed it was a forced happy ending, but I read some comments and explanations as to why it was possible which I can believe. The epilogue was kind of confusing, if not mainly flashbacks. I quickly went online and discovered the special epilogue that for whatever reason wasn’t included in Netflix which upset me even more. How was it allowed to end in that way? Adult Chenling doesn’t finish telling the story… What? How? I was mad. However, I hated that open-ended conclusion. It wrapped most of the side stories up which I appreciated. When at the end, Wen said something on the lines of the one who survives will most likely be suffering but you’re the ‘senior brother’ so you must bear it – my heart broke a little. I really wasn’t sure if they would get a happy ending with how much tragedy they had endured. I hated how extreme their love was in the sense that they would die if the other didn’t survive, but their love was hardcore. I love how they healed each other and were constantly there for one another, mostly saving each other. All in all, I fell in love with Wen and Zhou their relationship touched me. I have so much to say about this drama, but I don’t want to write a long ass review. Anyone can commit evil acts for their own personal gain. This part of the story got a bit long winded, and towards the end, it felt like everything was conveniently spelled out, but it wasn’t a big deal to me.Ĭontinuing on, one thing I really like that Wen mentions is how everyone pinpoints the ghost sect as being the evildoers, but the ones preaching purity in their high and mighty sects are just as malicious when need be. In this, we have the glazed armory and the group of friends that created it. He was superb, and the two of them poetically dying together was just chef’s kiss.Ī lot of times, these stories have something in the past that is driving the current day story. Scorpion King’s father was a good villain, but Scorpion King is the true mastermind. Their motives were clear, and they had heart to their every conniving move. Look here, we have an endearing main pair and an adorable second couple along with a handful of solid supporting characters. Her love for that man, and their ultimate demise was kind of a full circle moment, and I respected it. Who does a best C-drama couple countdown list and includes their death scenes? Anywho, another side character I was quite fond of is Qianqiao aka Beauty Ghost. I felt so betrayed by his master his actions make me mad still. I love Xiang! Her love interest, Cao, could’ve been a bit more expressive, but their love story broke my heart. Secondly, the supporting cast was fantastic. In C-drama world, that isn’t lengthy.įirstly, Zhou and Wen had some sizzling yet adorable screen time that just melted my heart. Nevertheless, this genre/ plot is right up my alley and wasn’t too long – it was only 36-episodes long, following a short epilogue. I wonder if there’s an actual English translation for xian’xia. I freaking love Chinese martial arts high fantasy. On his travels, he meets the leader of the Ghost Valley, Wen, and the two strike a friendship while getting embroiled in a conspiracy and revenge plot. In short, Zhou, a former leader of an assassin group, quits his position using extreme measures and decides to wander the world with his remaining days. I love the found family unit between Zhou, Wen, and Chenling. Their interactions were amazing and carried the show. Both did a fabulous job in “Word of Honor” and had great chemistry with each other. While this is my first, Zhang Zhehan (played Zhou Zishu) drama, this is my second Simon Gong Jun (played Wen Kexing) drama – my first is “The Love Equations” 致我們甜甜的小美滿. Nonetheless, a lot of people had “Word of Honor” on their best list last year, so I decided to finally give it a try. “Word of Honor” blew up and might possibly be one of the last danmei dramas to come out of Mainland China in a long time due to current policies. ~ Warning! Spoilers! Chinese Drama Review: “Word of Honor” (山河令) 2021 ~
